What we do

Most strategy work answers the question what. The Yijing asks a different one: when, and from which position. Shízhōng, 'the timely mean', is the classical term for acting rightly because the moment is right; it appears in the commentary on hexagram 4 and in the Doctrine of the Mean.

Our engagements follow the standards you expect from leading consulting firms: hypothesis-driven diagnosis, data, stakeholder interviews, scenarios and a clear decision architecture. On top of this we add a second lens. Each critical decision is read through the 64 situations of the Yijing—not to predict, but to surface blind spots, test timing and open the conversation a leadership team has been avoiding.

We work in Chinese, Italian and English, between Europe and Greater China, for medium and large enterprises, family businesses and the people who lead them.

The Six Lines Method: how an engagement unfolds

  1. 1Foundation

    Foundation

    Listen and map: interviews, data, the facts beneath the story.

  2. 2Inner centre

    Inner centre

    Diagnose: what is the organisation's real position and capability?

  3. 3Threshold

    Threshold

    Locate the risk: where does opportunity tip into danger?

  4. 4Approach

    Approach

    Stakeholders: who is close to the decision, who is affected, who is missing?

  5. 5Decision

    Decision

    Decide with the board: options, timing and the 'great person' perspective.

  6. 6Beyond

    Beyond

    Anticipate overreach: what happens if we go too far, and how we review and exit.

A binary system three centuries before the computer

In 1701 the Jesuit Joachim Bouvet sent Leibniz a diagram of the 64 hexagrams in the order attributed to Fu Xi. Leibniz recognised in it the binary arithmetic he had been developing, and in 1703 published his 'Explication de l'arithmétique binaire'. Read yang as 1 and yin as 0, from the bottom line up, and the Fu Xi order counts from 0 to 63.

坤000 = 0
艮001 = 1
坎010 = 2
巽011 = 3
震100 = 4
离101 = 5
兑110 = 6
乾111 = 7

Ask a question, cast a hexagram, read it the classical way

State your question; cast with three coins, the yarrow-stalk algorithm, manual entry or numbers; find the hexagram; read the judgment and the changing lines; turn each changing line into its opposite to find the resulting hexagram, and read its judgment. Our reading engine adds the nuclear, opposite and inverse hexagrams and finds the closest cases among 720 situations.
